I won't say 'silent' - I'm not even sure it's truly possible for a fan at this price to be 'silent.' But it's way way quieter than the bare-bones fan I used to have. The night light is nice, too. The main light at first is a bit dim, but after a minute or so it brightens up. We had it installed in the center of the bathroom. We kept the over-the-mirror lights for tasks that require bright lighting at the mirror (e.g., putting on makeup). The light is bright and energy eff. Only thing is it takes the light a minute to warm up and get bright, very dim when first turned on. The night light is also a plus as better to turn it on of the night if you need to use the bathroom and you dont have to fight the standard bright light with your eyes - also nice if you just want to leave one on.
